The Semeiko-Wang Nature Remembered
2026
LM Studios, London Museum

From February to June 2026, my wife, artist Yu-Chen Wang, our daughter Lily, and I undertook a Family-in-Residence at the London Museum Studios as part of the public engagement programme and the development of new work. The residency explored how we navigate everyday environments, where nature can be encountered within the city, and how it is remembered, experienced, and imagined across London's urban landscape, with a particular focus on the area between Caledonian Park and Smithfield. Working from our local neighbourhood to the museum's new home, we traced the course of the River Fleet, uncovering historical, ecological, and geographical connections through walking, observation, and research in the London Museum's archives and collections. This process resulted in the development of new paintings, drawings, photographs, and moving-image works that examined the relationship between people, place, and the natural environment.
Between April and May 2026, we shared and expanded this research through a programme of public engagement activities, including discussions with local Smithfield residents, participatory art workshops, walks, and Open Studio events. These activities enabled participants to contribute their own knowledge, memories, and experiences, enriching the research while creating opportunities for creativity, dialogue, and shared learning.
