Towards Understanding Huai Su

performance, installation and film, 14min, in collaboration with choreographer Hsin-Ying Tsai

The movements for the performance were choreographed referring to gestures in Chinese calligraphy of the 7th century Tang Dynasty calligrapher Huai Su, whom the emperor nicknamed ‘Drunk Su’ because of his flowing cursive writing, combined with the mark-making in Semeiko’s studio practice as a painter. The work is underpinned by the research and discussions about evoking emotions through repetitive body movements, with cognitive psychologist Dr Lawrence Taylor.
